Firefighters responded to an incident on Mountbatten Way, Sydenham, yesterday after Triple Zero (000) callers reported a house fire at 3:18pm.

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) arrived on scene to find one double-storey and one single-storey brick townhouse fully involved with fire.

The response was escalated with CFA firefighters also responding.

Due to excessive fuel load and gusty winds, the fire quickly spread to a third double-storey property.

Donning breathing apparatus (BA), a crew of 30 firefighters worked together to suppress the fire.

Through their quick action, firefighters protected an additional two properties from damage and brought the incident under control at 5.28pm.

Ambulance Victoria assessed all residents at the scene.

FRV’s specialist fire investigators and Victoria Police are investigating the cause of the incident today.
