Police release CCTV following Mernda incident yesterday

Mernda Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team detectives today released CCTV following an investigation into an incident in Mernda yesterday.

Investigators have been told a 9-year-old girl had been riding her bike to school along Skeeter Drive about 8.30am when she was confronted by a man.

The man grabbed hold of the handlebars of the girl’s bike before convincing her to walk alongside him.

The girl managed to run away from the man, who then dropped the bike and fled the scene on foot.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident and particularly anyone who was in the area bounded by Bridge Inn Road, Plenty Road and Masons Lane between 8am and 9am yesterday who may have dashcam or CCTV footage.

Detectives are seeking footage that shows a male wearing a blue coat or jacket especially in Skeeter, Sumner and Mernda Village drives.

Investigators today released CCTV footage of a male who they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
