Murrindindi Shire farewells stalwart Michelle Jack

On 29 April 1996, a then 19-year-old Michelle Jack walked into the Alexandra office of Murrindindi Shire Council for her first day of work.

The role was ‘Engineering Support’ and it was based in the ‘site hut’ – which housed the engineers and the tea room – out the back of the office before the current building was built.

Today, Michelle is Executive Assistant to Director Assets and Development, Stuart McConnell and Director Corporate and Shared Services, Michael Chesworth.

Director Assets and Development, Stuart McConnell said Michelle is an extremely valued member of the team and will be missed.

“Michelle has always been the kind of person who’s willing to step in and sort out whatever needs sorting out across the organisation. The officers have ‘buckley’s chance’ of finding me now,” Mr McConnell said.

Director Corporate and Shared Services, Michael Chesworth said Michelle is a quiet achiever, always working hard in the background to get things done.

“On behalf of everyone here at Council, I would like to thank Michelle for her dedication and hardwork over the years. Her contribution has been greatly appreciated” Mr Chesworth said.

As well as being ‘keeper of the Directors’, Ms Jack said the thing that has kept her at Council for 22 years has been a passion for organising things, and people.

“The people you work with become your second family too,” Ms Jack said.

“We all spend so much time together that you get to know your workmates really well. We share the happy times and the hard times, we share in the big moments in each other’s lives. My workmates have been a part of all my big moments – when I got engaged, when I got married and when I had each of my three kids.

“I’ll really miss the people but I’ll still be living in Alexandra, so look forward to staying up to date with all the exciting things happening at Council,” Ms Jack said.

Michelle finishes with Murrindindi Shire next Friday, 23 November.
