SOUTHBANK, VIC. — Seasons come and go, but 2027 promises to be one of significance for the Malthouse Theatre, as it marks its 50th anniversary since starting back in 1976.
Recently appointed Co-CEO and Artistic Director, Dean Bryant, is responsible for the assembly of bold new Australian works for the 2027 Malthouse season.
Seven of the season’s works are all new Australian works that will be world premieres, all to the credit of Bryant for securing the performers. Such will be the opening of the season with Eddie Perfect’s premiere of The Tartuffe, an AI-powered hairdressing robot.
Be prepared also for the return of Malthouse Comedy, where the entire venue is taken over as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2027.
Outrageous comedy, moving drama, chilling horror, fierce cabaret and an irreverent shake-up of a classic make up our season of electric new work – all Australian, no less – that will exhilarate, inspire and ask some of the biggest questions of our times.
In 2027, we invite you to experience the timeless ritual of becoming an audience together. Come in. Sit down.
Lock it in and let’s go.
