SUNBURY, VIC. — Hume City Council has welcomed a Victorian Labor Party $15 million commitment towards a sports and arts precinct at Sunbury College.

Hume City councillors believe that more funds will be required to complete the project to adequately support students and the wider Sunbury community.

“I thank the Victorian Labor Party for this commitment and invite all major parties to support this important project. The Sunbury community deserves certainty that it will proceed regardless of the outcome of the State Election, so local families, schools and sporting clubs can have confidence that this much-needed facility will be delivered,” the Mayor of Hume City, Cr Carly Moore said.

Council confirmed its in-principle willingness to partner with Sunbury College, the Sunbury Basketball Association, the Sunbury Netball Association and major political parties to further develop the proposal for the indoor sports stadium at the council meeting on August 24.

“While Council has not committed funding to the project at this stage, any future contribution would be subject to Council’s budget process and consideration of appropriate governance, operational arrangements and community benefit.”

Hume City Council has “called upon all the major parties to match this commitment for this significant project,” Cr Carly Moore said.
