STAWELL, VIC. — Two men are in custody following a traffic intercept on the Western Highway. At approximately 4am yesterday, Stawell uniform members intercepted a white Lexus travelling westbound on the Western Highway after allegedly detecting the vehicle speeding.

Officers spoke with the two male occupants, who appeared nervous during the interaction.

A subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly located a commercial quantity of cannabis.

Both men were arrested and conveyed to Stawell Police Station, while the vehicle was seized and towed for forensic examination.

Two men, aged 28 and 23, both from South Australia, remain in custody and appeared before the Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Detective Acting Sergeant Nathan Dunn from the Northern Grampians Crime Investigation Unit said the result highlighted the importance of proactive policing.

“What started as a routine traffic intercept has resulted in the alleged seizure of a significant quantity of cannabis before it could reach the community. This arrest demonstrates the value of our members remaining vigilant and acting on suspicious behaviour during everyday policing duties,” Detective Acting Sergeant Nathan Dunn said.
