Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding an incident in Brunswick last week where a man became unresponsive following his arrest and subsequently died.
Police were called to the intersection of Sydney Road and Albert Street about 9.30pm on Friday, June 6, to assist paramedics with an agitated man who became aggressive.
The 43-year-old Brunswick man left the paramedics and started to walk off along Sydney Road when he was arrested by police.
He was placed into an ambulance and became unresponsive whilst en route to hospital.
The man passed away in hospital on Tuesday night.
Detectives from the Homicide Squad will investigate the incident with oversight from the Professional Standards Command, as per standard practice, where someone dies after being taken into police custody.
