Police have arrested a man after a car crashed into a barrier and rolled in Flemington this morning.
Police received calls about the crash on Racecourse Road at 1.45am.
It’s alleged that a man and a woman were seen trying to kick in the windscreen of the crashed vehicle they had stolen before taking several items and fleeing.
Local officers and a Dog Squad member were quickly on scene and started a search for the couple.
The Dog Squad located a man hiding in a recycling bin in a nearby laneway.
The man, believed to be in his 20s, was placed under arrest. He was taken to hospital under police guard.
Further enquiries revealed that the car had been stolen. A search of the vehicle uncovered a firearm, drugs and a machete.
The woman is yet to be located.
