NARRE WARREN, VIC. — Casey Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) detectives have charged a 23-year-old Dandenong man following a carjacking in Narre Warren, with police alleging that the man approached a woman who was standing next to her vehicle on Webb Street and pushed her at about 10.30am on Wednesday.
The man allegedly got inside the victim’s car before members of the public stopped him from driving off.
They restrained him until police arrived.
The 23-year-old Dandenong man was arrested at the scene and taken to hospital for assessment under police guard.
He has now been interviewed by detectives and charged with several offences, including carjacking, theft of a motor vehicle, common law assault, aggravated assault, possessing a drug of dependence and commiting an indictable offence whilst on bail.
He appeared at the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
