Man charged following firearm incident

GLENROY, VIC. — Merri-Bek Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) yesterday charged a 33-year-old Meadow Heights man following a firearms incident in Glenroy on Wednesday.

Police alleged the man had a firearm inside a carport on Murrel Street about 2pm.

He fled in a light-coloured Honda Jazz when police arrived.

Officers intercepted the Honda on Murrel Street and arrested the driver.

Police searched the car and allegedly located a firework, which was examined by the Bomb Response Unit and deemed to be safe.

The Meadow Heights man was charged with:

  • prohibited person use imitation firearm;
  • traffick methylamphetamine and 1,4 Butanediol;
  • six counts of possessing a drug of dependence;
  • possessing a controlled weapon;
  • possessing a prohibited weapon;
  • negligently dealing with the proceeds of crime; and
  • committing an indictable offence whilst on bail.

He appeared before the Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
