COCKATOO, VIC. — Cardinia Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following a collision between a car and a cyclist in Cockatoo yesterday.
Emergency services were called to the collision on Pakenham Road about 2.40pm.
The cyclist, a 47-year-old of no fixed address, was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he remains.
Police will allege that the driver failed to stop at the scene and dumped the vehicle at a nearby reserve on Hillside Road.
A 44-year-old Cockatoo man was arrested nearby and released pending further enquiries.
Detectives later arrested the alleged driver, a 27-year-old Cockatoo man, in Cockatoo about 12.20am this morning.
He has been charged with causing serious injury and dangerous driving causing serious injury.
He will appear before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today for a remand hearing.
