Man hijacks a crane at Thomastown construction site

An incident in Thomastown ended at about 8am after police successfully negotiated with the man, who agreed to climb down.

An incident in Thomastown ended at about 8am after police successfully negotiated with the man, who agreed to climb down.

At about 1.45am this morning emergency services were called to a construction site on High Street, Thomastown after reports of a fire.

Fire crews attended and extinguished the blaze, which is thought to be deliberately lit.
Whilst on scene a man was seen in a crane on the top of the building.

The shirtless man refused to come out of the crane as police negotiated with him.

Buses continue to replace trains on the Mernda line.

The man is now in police custody.
