MOORABBIN, VIC. — An on-duty Victoria Police Inspector from the southern region was attempting to refuel at a service station on South Road when he observed a Subaru Liberty allegedly displaying stolen number plates at about 2am yesterday.
It is alleged the driver saw the police vehicle and left in a hurry, damaging the vehicle in the process.
He abandoned the Subaru, which was allegedly stolen from Eastland Shopping Centre, a short distance away and fled on foot.
The officer arrested the 31-year-old man nearby.
After the arrest, the Inspector re-attended the service station to refuel the police car.
This time, he came across another vehicle, a Jeep, which was allegedly displaying stolen plates.
He waited for the two occupants to come out of the service station, then pounced on the offenders and arrested both with the assistance of colleagues.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee was allegedly stolen from Ashwood on September 25.
The 31-year-old Seaford man was charged with:
- theft of a motor vehicle;
- dealing with proceeds of crime;
- going equipped to steal;
- possessing methylamphetamine;
- possessing 1,4-Butanediol;
- attempting to traffic methylamphetamine;
- attempting to traffic 1,4-Butanediol;
- stating a false name; and
- disqualified driving.
He was bailed to appear at Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on February 18, 2027.
A 24-year-old Berwick woman was charged with dealing with property suspected proceeds of crime and handling stolen goods.
A 24-year-old Kew man was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, handling stolen goods, dealing with property suspected of being the proceeds of crime, possessing 1,4-Butanediol and possessing cannabis.
Both were bailed to appear at Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on January 11, 2027.
