MILL PARK, VIC. — Detectives from the Whittlesea Crime Investigation Unit have charged two men following a series of incidents in the Whittlesea area yesterday morning.
It is alleged the pair, travelling in a bright purple Holden Commodore “which really stood out,” police media spokesperson Paul Hogan told ABC Radio Breakfast.
The offenders were allegedly involved in:
• an attempted carjacking outside a shopping centre on Childs Road in Mill Park;
• two attempted carjackings in the vicinity of a primary school on Blamey Avenue in Mill Park;
• an attempted carjacking at a 7 Eleven on Childs Road, Mill Park.
A short time later, the Commodore was seen driving erratically at various locations through Bundoora and Mill Park.
The Commodore was intercepted by police at a shopping centre carpark on McDonalds Road, South Morang, and the two men were arrested just after 9am yesterday.
Earlier yesterday, a white Holden utility was involved in an evade with police in Jubilee Crescent in Bundoora just before 8.15am.
Police will allege that the two men swapped from the white Holden utility to the purple Commodore during the course of the above alleged offending.
A 42-year-old Pascoe Vale man and an 18-year-old Bundoora man were arrested and have been charged with multiple offences, including:
- four counts of attempted carjackings;
- being a non-prohibited person possessing a firearm;
- possessing ammunition;
- possessing cannabis; and
- possessing methylamphetamine.
The pair will appear before Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court today.
