Controversial Herald Sun columnist Andrew Bolt has today claimed in his opinion column (Herald Sun 9/1/25, p. 23) “Why free speech will trump all.“
“What a difference Donald Trump is making already to our free speech.
“What a problem for the Albanese government,” Bolt states.

Andrew Bolt appears to have confused the right to free speech with people in power posting outright lies on social media and allowing misogyny and racism to flourish.
“He’s [Zuckerberg] now admitting what Meta long denied – that Facebook was censoring conservatives and the Right, sometimes under pressure from the Biden administration,” Bolt states.
“Zuckerberg says he’s also removing restrictions in Meta’s filters used to “shut people out with different ideas” on gender and immigration, and get more in touch with mainstream discourse”,” Bolt stated.
What Bolt welcomes though is the return of people on social media that can now attack, belittle and harass people of colour, LGBTQI+ people, women, people with physical and/or mental disabilities, ‘woke leftists,’ DEI, and anything and anyone else who isn’t a right-wing, white conservative male. Bolt supports this.
This is all to welcome the world’s most lying leader in modern history, US President-elect Donald Trump.
Therefore Andrew Bolt thinks this behaviour is perfectly normal and acceptable and he welcomes its return to social media discourse. It is not OK.
In Australia, the Australian Associated Press (wire service) will continue fact-checking Australian content on Facebook until their contract expires unless Meta cancels it sooner, which is now a possibility.
However, this doesn’t stop false information flowing from accounts outside Australia to be seen on Meta’s social media platforms.
Andrew Bolt thinks Donald Trump is a great and good leader, which says a lot about Andrew Bolt and he looks forward to Musk and Zuckerberg interfering in our upcoming federal election too: ” … try that stuff again and this [Albanese] government won’t just have Musk attacking them, but now Zuckerberg as well,” Bolt said.
The anti-immigration specialist, Andrew Bolt, was born in Australia to Dutch immigrant parents.
He is a qualified journalist.
Andrew Bolt and The Herald and Weekly Times did not respond to a request for comment.
