He has chaired the Rail Freight Alliance, Regional Cities Victoria, Hume Regional Development Australia committee, as well as Regional Capitals Australia, and was inaugural President of Murray United Football Club in its establishment years.
Byatt is also a CFA volunteer of over 40 years and has served in CFA leadership roles, including a term on the CFA Board.
He was awarded the Mayor Emeritus after serving five consecutive years as the Mayor of the City of Wodonga.
He also finds time to run an Angus cattle farm with his wife.
