SEYMOUR, VIC. — Following the construction of two new pedestrian crossings on Wallis Street and Station Street in Seymour, contractors will be completing the installation of public lighting in August.
Mitchell Shire Council is delivering the project in partnership with the Transport Accident Commission’s (TAC) Safe Local Roads and Streets Program to improve safety and accessibility for the community.
The public lighting works will involve installing a new hard-wired light pole overlooking the new Wallis Street raised crossing, requiring an electrical connection from the Tallarook Street power pole.
To safely complete these works, the following temporary traffic management will be in place during the works:
- Works will mostly be undertaken behind the ‘back of kerb’ on the corner of Wallis Street and Tallarook Street to minimise lengthy impacts to local traffic.
- Wallis Street’s northbound lane and Tallarook Street’s eastbound lane may be closed during the pole erection and electrical connection phase of the works. This is likely to occur on Wednesday and Thursday for periods up to 3-4 hours between 9am and 3pm.
- Detours will be in place for the Wallis Street lane closure.
- Shuttle flow managed by Traffic Controllers for the roundabout movements will be in place for the Tallarook St lane closure
- Drivers should allow extra travel time and follow instructions from traffic controllers and signage.
- Access to homes, businesses and surrounding streets will be maintained, although short delays may occur.
- The footpath at the Wallis Street/Tallarook Street corner may be closed to pedestrians at certain times during the construction works, however, customers/patrons for local businesses can be escorted under traffic control.
Day works will take place from Wednesday, August 19 to Friday, August 21 between 7am and 5pm, weather permitting.
