GEELONG, VIC. — Detectives from the Financial Crime Squad have charged a man as part of their investigation into reports of suspected fraudulent activity targeting a Geelong-based not-for-profit organisation, genU.
A 59-year-old Williamstown man was this afternoon charged with 309 counts of obtain financial advantage by deception.
He has been summonsed to appear at Geelong Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 25.
Police will allege the amount of the fraud to be over $10 million.
The matter was initially reported to police by the organisation, and an investigation commenced in February 2023, after they identified suspicious activity relating to accounts being wrongfully charged to the organisation.

In September 2024, a then 74-year-old Leopold man was arrested in Geelong and released without charge.
