Detectives have charged a 32-year-old South Geelong man following a stabbing of a 73-year-old woman in South Geelong at about 7pm last night.
The woman was walking home from a family member’s house along Mundy Street when she reached the corner of Bellarine Street when police allege the South Geelong man approached the elderly woman from behind and stabbed her several times before walking away.
The 73-year-old South Geelong woman managed to seek assistance from a residence on Mundy Street and was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Geelong Crime Investigation Unit investigators arrested the 32-year-old South Geelong man at his address a short time later.
He has been charged with intentionally causing serious injury and is currently in custody before appearing at Geelong Magistrates’ Court this afternoon.
