VICTORIA — Tomorrow, Friday, January 9, will be the worst fire conditions Victoria has faced in six years.
A CFA volunteer, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told VicNews that “it’s not the fires going now that could change everything, it’s when the change arrives.”
As the cool change arrives tomorrow afternoon from south-west Victoria, this will change wind directions and could potentially change the ‘fire front’ of the major bushfires currently burning.
Where fire spotting ahead of the main major bushfires is not currently occurring tonight, this could change instantly as the cool change arrives tomorrow.
Places currently not under immediate danger could suddenly find themselves so.
It is the weather and wind change, along with the potential for dry lightning sparking new bushfires, that have firefighters most concerned.
Those with medical conditions who reside in areas declared Catastrophic are urged to leave tonight.
Public transport in these areas has been suspended, including replacement buses for rail services. They will not be operating tomorrow.
