WARRAGUL, VIC. — Baw Baw Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) detectives have charged a 43-year-old Warragul man following a fire at a funeral home in Warragul on Wednesday night, with police alleging that the Warragul man walked along Howitt Street towards the funeral home on Korumburra-Warragul Road, where he smashed several windows on the side of the building at about 7.30pm.
Police alleged in court that he then threw an item inside, starting the fire, then fled on foot along Landsborough Street.
A staff member was inside at the time of the incident and managed to self-evacuate uninjured.
There was significant damage to the building.
Officers searched the area and arrested a 43-year-old man nearby.
The Warragul man has been charged with several offences, including criminal damage by arson, reckless conduct endangering life, reckless conduct endangering serious injury and committing an indictable offence whilst on bail.
He was remanded to face Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
