NELSE, VIC. — Two women have been found dead in Nelse, north-east of Falls Creek in Victoria’s alpine region.
At this stage the deaths appear non-suspicious.
Emergency services were first called following reports two bodies had been found at Lendenfeld Point on Friday, October 3, about 12.50pm.
Two hikers came across the scene near Cleve Cole Hut and called Triple Zero (000).
Uniform officers, along with the Search and Rescue Squad and Air Wing, responded and made their way to the isolated scene.
At this stage, the identity of the women is not known, but it appears the pair, believed to be aged in their 20s or 30s, may have been in the area to hike and camp.
Police are appealing for information from the public to assist in identifying those involved, as “we are not aware of any current missing person reports,” police said.
Due to the conditions and isolated location, police camped at the scene overnight.
Cleve Cole Hut is north of Falls Creek, close to Mount Bogong.
A website for Mt Bogong Club says the Cleve Cole Hut is at an altitude of 1,760 metres.
It is expected the bodies will be removed from the scene today.
