MELBOURNE, VIC. — Renowned Nazi and far-right activist Monica Smit has invited her followers, for just $10, to attend a gathering at il Mercato Centrale on Sunday, September 20, from 4pm.

“Venue change. This one is WAY BETTER. Food and drinks available for purchase. Tickets are only $10. We anticipate up to 500 attendees. Come and celebrate our success!!!,” Smit’s latest flyer states.

“Inspired by the Italian way of gathering, il Mercato Centrale Melbourne is a place where taste, style and culture blend together. It’s a place where food is lived, told and prepared by artisans who respect it and know it deeply,” their il Mercato Centrale website states.

Monica Smit had been seeking a venue to host her Nazi gathering. Still, most venues refused as they did not want to be associated with Nazis, Smit, her followers or Nazi cult leader Thomas Sewell.

The original host, Metropolis Events, cancelled after discovering Monica’s history supporting neo-Nazis.

On November 20, 2025, Sarah Basford Canales reported for The Guardian that: “[Monica] Smit defended [Tommy] Robinson’s inclusion, saying he would “share his energy and patriotism via a pre-recorded video speech.”

“We have connected with Tommy Robinson, as he has a large global profile as someone who is patriotic and speaks up for his own country, voicing the concerns of many of his fellow countrymen and women,” Smit said.

The event is apparently a celebration of Smit and Avi Yemini (the “proud Jewish Nazi” and former IDF soldier) to register Victorian state political parties, using their Group Voting Ticket (GVT) to send preferences to Pauline Hanson’s One Nation and her Victorian state election candidates.

While it may be framed as a “celebration of abolishing the GVT” it is also an excuse for a Nazi gathering which il Mercato Centrale is – at present – hosting.

il Mercato Centrale was contacted by email and phone seeking a response. They did not respond by deadline.
