Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a fatal multi-vehicle collision in Armstrong on Wednesday afternoon, where three people died.

It is understood that two cars, a B-double and two smaller trucks, were involved in a collision on the Western Highway, near the intersection of Thomas Road about 12.30pm.

The driver of a car was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Two occupants of one of the trucks also died at the scene.

They are yet to be formally identified.

The driver of the other car involved was taken to hospital as a precaution.

The exact circumstances of the collision are yet to be determined. Investigations are ongoing.
