HAWTHORN, VIC. — A man has been charged after allegedly wielding weapons in Hawthorn yesterday afternoon.
Police responded to reports of a man walking along Burwood Road carrying an axe and a sledgehammer about 4pm.
Police will allege in court that the man smashed a parked vehicle with the weapons before continuing along the street.
No one was injured.
The alleged offender was seen entering a building on Burwood Road prior to police arriving on the scene.
Officers entered the building and spotted damage to a hallway and doors, alleged to have been caused by the axe and sledgehammer.
It is alleged that the man struck a wall with the axe in police presence.
The officers moved in and arrested a 29-year-old Hawthorn man.
He was charged with criminal damage, possession of a dangerous article, behaving in a riotous manner and possession of a drug of dependence.
He was remanded in custody and will face the Melbourne Magistrate’s Court today.
