Burglar caught red-handed in East Melbourne

Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a 31-year-old Williams Landing man following a series of alleged aggravated burglaries about 5.30pm last night.

It is alleged the man gained entry to four homes in Gipps and Hotham streets around 5.30pm and made off with various personal items including passports, wallets and cash.

The man was arrested on Hotham Street by attending officers after one of the victims confronted the offender in their home and walked him out.

The 31-year-old man was interviewed by police and has been charged with a range of offences including aggravated burglary, burglary, handling stolen goods, possessing drugs of dependence and bail-related offences.

The stolen property was recovered and returned to the victims.

The Williams Landing man has been remanded overnight to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.
