Police will allege the vehicle was stolen at Laverton Railway Station minutes before it negotiated a roundabout at a fast rate of speed, struck a gutter and crashed into a tree.

The 2011 Toyota Kluger was destroyed, and the driver fled the scene.

A 19-year-old Lara man was arrested today and has since been charged with several offences, including carjacking, tampering with a motor vehicle, the attempted theft of a motor vehicle and associated offences.
