ESSENDON, VIC. — Police have arrested two people following a pursuit of a stolen vehicle in the Moonee Valley area earlier today.
Unmarked police vehicles initially spotted the allegedly stolen Hyundai in Raleigh Street, Maribyrnong at 2:45am.
The car was followed to Mt Alexander Road, Essendon, where it was detected allegedly traveling 138km/h in a 60km/h zone.
The Hyundai was followed by police to Bell Street in Coburg, where it was observed to be driving erratically, driving on the wrong side of the road and having near misses with other vehicles.
Police deployed stop sticks at the intersection of Bell Street and St Georges Road in Preston, which damaged the front tyre of the Hyundai.
With the assistance of the Air Wing, the Hyundai, now driving with only three tyres, was followed through multiple northern and eastern suburbs before it was dumped in Deep Creek Road in Mitcham.
The male driver and his female passenger fled on foot to nearby Antonio Park, where police swiftly arrested the pair without incident.
The driver, a 25-year-old Mill Park man, allegedly failed a roadside drug test and was found to have numerous warrants.
He has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, reckless conduct endangering serious injury and dangerous driving whilst pursued by police.
He has been remanded to appear at Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, October 21.
A 23-year-old Heidelberg Heights woman has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle and bailed to appear at Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on February 5, 2027.
