SOUTHBANK, VIC. — Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) detectives are appealing for public assistance to identify a man in relation to several bin fires in Melbourne’s CBD since early July.
Investigators believe up to eight bins were deliberately lit on fire by an unknown male in Southbank from July 2 to August 2, including:
- near the intersection of City Road and Power Street about 10.10am on Friday, July 3;
- Haigh Street, near Clarendon Street, about 11.15pm on Tuesday, July 7 and Sunday, July 12;
- Clarke Street, near City Road, just after 3pm on Monday, July 27; and
- four bins set alight on City Road between 5.30-8pm on Sunday, August 2.
No properties were damaged in the blazes. There were no injuries.
The man is described as Caucasian, approximately 18-25 years of age with a slim build and was wearing dark coloured clothing.
