La Trobe University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Theo Farrell, today ordered organisers of “the student protest at our Melbourne (Bundoora) campus directing them to remove tents and structures associated with the [Agora] encampment.”
The protest at La Tobe Univeristy follows protests at universities throughout the world.
Students at the encampment did wish to be named or photographed, with one student stating (overheard) fearful of being “kicked out of their study.”
“We have advised the protest organisers that, consistent with the University’s obligations, we will continue to accommodate their right to protest peacefully and respectfully without an encampment,” Farrell said in an email to La Trobe University students.
Students do not plan on going anywhere. At 5pm, the student encampment has not been removed.
No police, security or enforcement of Vice Chancellor Farrell’s order were present on campus, with the exception of the usual Univeristy’s security officer patrols.
More to come.
