A driver has died after it left the Maerriang Road, Woodstock and collided with a tree before catching fire at about 5.50pm yesterday.

It is believed the car overtook numerous vehicles on the wrong side of the road.

Officers were told that the driver swerved back onto the correct side of the road, before losing control and crashing into a tree.

The driver and only occupant, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.

When they attempted to stop, a secondary collision occurred between three vehicles travelling behind the car. No one was injured in the secondary collision.

The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be determined.
