Firefighters responded at 5.20pm to a wrecking yard fire on Hocking Street, Coburg North after several triple zero calls.

Firefighters responded at 5.20pm to a wrecking yard fire on Hocking Street, Coburg North after several triple zero calls.

Firefighters arrived on the scene within five minutes to find a scrap yard, approximately 60m by 30m, fully involved in fire, with recycled cars and shipping containers under threat, and the response was escalated to a third alarm.

Multiple aerial fire trucks responded to help tackle the blaze.

The fire was declared under control at 7.30pm. FRV crews remain on the scene to extinguish the wrecker’s yard fire which is expected to burn for several hours.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. FRV and Victoria Police will investigate.

Worksafe and the EPA also notified.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria also remain on scene.
