Firefighters responded to a house fire in Northumberland Road, Sunshine North about 5.10am following a single call to triple zero.
Crews arrived on scene within 5 minutes to find the rear section of a single-storey dwelling issuing flames and smoke.
Twenty-two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus firefighters worked to extinguish the fire, bringing the incident under control within 55 minutes.
The fire was contained to the rear of the home.
Three occupants had safely evacuated before firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Specialist fire investigators will attend the scene in daylight hours to assist to determine the cause.
Five pumpers, a rescue and a tele-boom, along with Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria attended.
