FAWKNER, VIC. — At 3.16am, Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to an incident on Sydney Road, Fawkner, after a fire indicator panel was activated.
FRV’s response was escalated to a second alarm en route due to the amount of smoke in the vicinity.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find a double brick building fully involved with fire.
FRV crews ascertained the building contained an electrical substation and began cooling the building until the power in the substation could be isolated.
The incident was deemed under control at 4.26am.

Firefighters remained on scene to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.
Crews cooled the building’s interior walls and used thermal imaging cameras to ensure no hotspots remained.
Ambulance Victoria and Victoria Police assisted firefighting operations.
