Firefighters responded to a structure fire at 7.05am on Carroll Street, Deer Park after callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a house fire.
Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) firefighters arrived on the scene within four minutes to find smoke and flames issuing from the roof of a single-storey brick house, and the response was escalated.
Crews donned breathing apparatus to attack the fire internally and prevent flames from spreading to adjoining properties, which were in close proximity.
One occupant that safely evacuated was assessed by Ambulance Victoria for smoke inhalation.
The incident was deemed under control at 8.13am.
In total, 30 firefighters and 10 appliances, including an aerial appliance, responded to the blaze.
The cause of the fire is not yet known. It will be investigated by FRV’s specialist Fire Investigation Unit.
Firefighters will remain on scene for some time, to ensure the fire is fully extinguished and mopping up spot fires and embers during the post-fire overhaul.
