HEIDELBERG WEST, VIC. — A mechanic’s workshop next to an Iron Horseman bikie clubhouse on McEwan Road, Heidelberg West, has been destroyed by fire in Melbourne overnight.

At 2.07am, Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to an incident on McEwan Road, Heidelberg West, after officers out on night patrol spotted the fire. No one was inside at the time.

A flat-bed tow truck reversed into the premises on McEwan Road, before two unknown offenders set the building alight about 2am.

One offender is believed to have caught fire before the duo fled in the tow truck.

About 14 vehicles and a tow truck stored inside the business were destroyed in the fire.

“The exact circumstances surrounding the fire are yet to be established, and the investigation is ongoing,” a police spokesperson said.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident, has dashcam or CCTV footage or anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.”

Firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes to find a 10m x 30m factory of tilt slab construction, fully involved in fire.

Crews initiated external firefighting operations and were unable to enter the building due to structural collapse, and worked to stop the spread of fire to adjoining properties.

The fire was deemed under control by 3.54am.

Viewed from behind the police tape, the Iron Horsemen signage next door stands in stark contrast to the now-destroyed La Trobe Collision Centre.

The cause of the fire has been deemed suspicious and will be investigated by Victoria Police.
