MELBOURNE, VIC. — Prahran Highway Patrol officers are appealing to the public to help identify a vehicle following a hit-and-run in Melbourne in the early hours this morning.
A vehicle – described as a white Mercedes SUV – was sighted driving erratically before it crashed into several cars near the intersection of Queens Road and Leopold Street around midnight.
“It is a miracle no one was hurt as a result of this hit-run collision. Looking at the damage and the aftermath, the outcome could have been far worse,” Senior Constable Daniel Geikowski told the media.
“We urge anyone with information about the vehicle to come forward.“
The series of collisions caused a power pole to come down, resulting in Queens Road being closed for an extended period.
The SUV did not stop and took off from the scene, headed towards the CBD.
Surprisingly, no one was injured.
Police wish to speak to witnesses, anyone with dashcam footage of the SUV or knowledge of the vehicle’s number plate.
If you are the driver of the SUV, do the right thing and hand yourself in to a police station,” Senior Constable Daniel Geikowski said.
