MALVERN EAST, VIC. — A 43-year-old man has been charged after allegedly ramming several vehicles and threatening police with a chainsaw in Malvern East last weekend.
Emergency services were called to reports the Malvern East man allegedly crashed into a parked car before fleeing the scene shortly before 5.30pm on July 18.
The man then removed the registration plates from his vehicle before driving erratically and dangerously around his neighbourhood.
It’s alleged he purposely crashed into two vehicles, including one containing a 12-year-old boy.
He then tried to access a fourth vehicle, containing a woman and child, and chased them in his vehicle as they fled the scene.
None of the victims were physically injured.
Police will allege the man returned to his St Jons Lane home, where he threatened a nearby resident.
The 40-year-old male victim managed to run to safety and notify police.
Investigators will allege that on arrival, the man was armed with a chainsaw and threatened police before barricading himself inside his home shortly after 5.50pm.
Critical Incident Response Team members safely took the man into custody about 9.30pm.
