Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a fatal hit-run collision on Moreland Road, Coburg last night.
It is understood a vehicle struck a man, who was standing with his bike about 6.20pm.
The man with the bike, who is yet to be formally identified, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

He sadly died in hospital early this morning.
The driver of the car remains outstanding.
Detectives believe the vehicle involved may be a light coloured (white or silver) European model small to midsized SUV.
The vehicle will have visible damage to both the front and passenger side.
The investigation remains ongoing.
