Two people have been arrested after an alleged burglary at a premises on Gilby Road, Mount Waverley about 4.10am today.

An allegedly stolen white Mitsubishi Express van was seen driving away from the commercial premises, which had been broken into.

With units on the ground and the Air Wing overhead, the Mitsubishi was followed allegedly driving at speed through the suburbs of Burwood, Surrey Hills and Camberwell.

Officers successfully deployed stop sticks at the intersection of Junction and Springvale roads in Nunawading.

The Mitsubishi continued to drive through Box Hill North and Blackburn North before losing a front wheel as objects were allegedly thrown from the vehicle.

The Mitsubishi came to a stop on Ringwood Street and police swiftly arrested the occupants, a man and a woman.

A 43-year-old Hallam man and a 31-year-old Sandringham woman remain in custody for a police interview.
