NEWPORT, VIC. — Hobsons Bay Crime Investigation Unit detectives have arrested and charged two teenage boys after a Hyundai i30 was damaged by a group on motorcycles in Melbourne’s western suburbs last week.
Police will allege the pair were riding in a convoy with around 50 others in Fawkner about 4pm on Sunday, June 21.
Investigators understand the group then made their way to the Newport area, where they were seen driving at speed, weaving through traffic and cutting off motorists.
Following a near miss with the Hyundai on Greive Parade, the driver of the vehicle came to a stop nearby on Melbourne Road.
It is believed some of the riders then surrounded the vehicle, damaging the side windows and the windscreen.
The driver sustained minor injuries when the windscreen shattered.
Officers have been told some of the riders were armed with weapons during the incident.
The riders fled the scene prior to police arrival.
Last night, detectives executed search warrants at properties in Meadow Heights and in the Hume area, where two males were arrested.
Investigators located and seized several items, including alleged stolen registration plates, a stolen Yamaha motorcycle, various clothing items and a helmet.
Detectives continue to work to identify the other riders, with additional arrests expected to occur.
