Smoke bandits fail in Cranbourne North theft attempt

Casey Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a burglary in Cranbourne North about 10.50pm on March 27.

It is understood three male offenders smashed the front window of a shop with a hammer on South Gippsland Highway.

Police were told the youths gained access to another part of the shop, where one attempted to cut the wires covering the front counter.

Another youth attempted to access the cigarette cupboards.

No one was inside the store at the time of the incident.

The security system activated and three alleged offenders fled the scene empty-handed.
