Firefighters responded to an incident in Scott Street, Sunbury at 1:09pm on Thursday, March 20, after callers to triple-0 reported a house fire.

Firefighters responded to an incident in Scott Street, Sunbury at 1:09pm on Thursday, March 20, after callers to triple-0 reported a house fire.

Thirty-three Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) and CFA firefighters in nine vehicles arrived on the scene within four minutes to find smoke and flames issuing from the roof of a single-storey brick veneer home.

Firefighters donned breathing apparatus (BA) and entered the burning home to begin an internal attack on the fire. Firefighters searched the home and confirmed no persons were inside.

All occupants of the home were able to evacuate safely without injury and the fire was deemed under control at 2pm.

The roof of the house has been severely damaged in the fire.

The fire was caused accidentally by a discarded cigarette butt.
