SPOTSWOOD, VIC. — Firefighters from Fire Rescue Victoria are continuing to attack small pockets of fire that remain at the Spotswood incident as operations are being scaled back.

FRV’s Remote Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) unit has been deployed.

At 2.29am, Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) was called to an incident on Hudsons Road, Spotswood, after multiple callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a factory fire.

Firefighters arrived on scene within six minutes to find a 60 metre by 30 metre factory ‘fully involved’ in fire.

Occupants of nearby apartments have been safely evacuated.

Fire crews donned breathing apparatus to knock down the blaze.

Three aerial appliances also responded to fight the fire from above.

The building contains asbestos, and FRV firefighters are implementing decontamination procedures.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria are on scene.

Water, gas and electricity companies are also on scene.

Residents in the Spotswood area have been advised to close doors and windows and turn off heating and cooling systems due to the smoke.

The incident was deemed under control, but not extinguished, at 4.45am.

It is believed that unknown offenders were seen fleeing the scene in a utility vehicle in an unknown direction.

A crime scene has been established.

An investigation is ongoing.
