GLADSTONE PARK, VIC. — Police this morning arrested two teens following an alleged arson in Gladstone Park and a subsequent extended search that ended in Greenvale.
The Air Wing was patrolling Melbourne’s north-west when it observed a car on fire near a property on Payne Street about 1.30am.
The vehicle, which was unoccupied at the time, was destroyed.
Responding officers allegedly attempted to intercept a stolen Toyota Corolla on Mickleham Road, observed by the Air Wing fleeing the scene, before it took off at speed.
The Air Wing continued following the vehicle through the suburbs of Tullamarine, Bulla, Gladstone Park and Greenvale, with the vehicle allegedly reaching speeds of up to 150km/h on the Tullamarine Freeway.
Stop sticks were deployed on Mickleham Road and were successful in deflating the vehicle’s tyres before it was dumped on Greenvale Drive, with the occupants fleeing on foot.
Both teens were arrested soon after in the backyards of properties on Arncliffe Boulevard.
Two 15-year-old boys remain in custody and will be interviewed by detectives.
The Toyota was allegedly stolen in Lalor on 26 June.
An investigation is ongoing.
