BRAYBROOK, VIC. — Brimbank Divisional Response Unit officers have charged two teens following an alleged motor vehicle theft and subsequent collision with an e-scooter on Harvester Road, Braybrook, at about 11.45am.
Police allege that a white Toyota Corolla had stopped to assist an elderly woman who had fallen when the vehicle was stolen by five teens.
A short time later, the stolen Toyota is alleged to have been travelling along Darnley Street, where it crossed to the incorrect side of the road and collided with an e-scooter near McLennan St, about 11.50am.
The rider of the e-scooter, a 68-year-old Sunbury man, was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he remains in a critical condition.
The Toyota allegedly continued a short distance before crashing into a tree at the intersection of Annesley Street and Ballarat Road.
It is alleged the five occupants of the vehicle fled the scene before being arrested by responding officers.
A 16-year-old boy from the Bendigo area has been charged with several offences including driving in a manner dangerous to cause serious injury, aggravated burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, reckless conduct endangering life, unlicensed driving and failing to stop and render assistance.
A 14-year-old boy from the Brimbank area has been charged with aggravated burglary, theft and theft of a motor vehicle.
They were both remanded to appear before a children’s court today.
A 13-year-old girl from the Hume area is expected to be charged on summons with theft and theft of a motor vehicle.
Two 15-year-old girls from the Ballarat and Greater Geelong areas were issued cautions.
