MELBOURNE, VIC. — Police have arrested two people and released images of more people they are hoping to identify as part of the investigation into a protest in Melbourne last month where police were allegedly assaulted.

Detectives from the North West Metro Regional Crime Squad have been investigating the protest that occurred on Saturday, October 19, in Melbourne.

It’s alleged that a counter-protest group attended and hurled rocks, glass bottles and rotten fruit at police.

Two men were arrested this week as part of a series of warrants executed by detectives.

This includes a 21-year-old Port Melbourne man who was charged on Tuesday with two counts of assaulting police and two counts of hindering police.

A 56-year-old from Kilsyth was also charged on Tuesday with assaulting police and hindering police.

Both men were bailed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on May 26, 2026.

The investigation has now led to a total of three people being charged, with police continuing to seek the public’s assistance to identify those involved.
