Working smoke alarm warns family

HEATHMONT, VIC. — Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to an incident in Yarang Court, Heathmont at 3.31pm yesterday after callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a house fire.

Firefighters arrived on scene within seven minutes to find a two-storey brick home with the top floor alight.

The response escalated to a second alarm (2A) as crews, wearing breathing apparatus, worked quickly to bring the fire under control. Asbestos was suspected to be present at the site, with protective procedures put in place.

The occupants evacuated safely after a working smoke alarm alerted them.

11 FRV appliances and 32 firefighters were committed to the firefight.

This incident was deemed under control at 3.55pm.

The fire was suspected to have been caused by a pair of Bluetooth earbuds left on charge.

CFA assisted FRV in firefighting operations.

Ambulance Victoria attended the scene.

A council building surveyor also attended.
