Men released from police custody after Alexandra fatal hit & run

UPDATED 7pm: A 23-year-old Fawcett man and 20-year-old Alexandra man have been released from police custody in Alexandra this afternoon following a fatal hit-run early this morning.

The 23-year-old Fawcett man has been released pending further investigation. A 20-year-old Alexandra man was released and is now being treated as a witness.

Both men — believed to be Alexandra Football Club players — were interviewed after a 20-year-old male pedestrian was located lying on the road on Hall Street with life-threatening injuries about 12.15am.

The Mount Duneed man died en route to hospital.

A Toyota Hilux, believed to have been involved in the incident, has also been recovered.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the incident.
