Mernda aggravated burglary

It is understood a group of offenders armed with edged weapons and metal poles gained entry to a residence in Avoca Avenue, Mernda about 4am this morning.

Southern Metro Crime Team detectives are investigating following an aggravated burglary and pursuit overnight which is believed to be linked to a series of incidents in Melbourne’s south and west on Sunday night.

The group confronted the occupants and stole various items as well as the occupant’s car, a white BMW SUV.

Three of the occupant’s home at the time, a 40-year-old woman and two children were not physically injured.

A 41-year-old man sustained minor injuries to his face.

The BMW was seen by police travelling towards Geelong on the Princes Freeway in convoy with a Mercedes, believed to be stolen from Derrimut early on Monday Morning.

Police spotted the BMW about 4.20am on Latrobe Terrace, Geelong West and a pursuit was initiated before being terminated a short time later due to excessive speed.

The Mercedes was later located abandoned on Lunan Avenue, Drumcondra.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

The males involved are perceived African in appearance.

Anyone who sights the white BMW with registration VIA365, or the outstanding black 2015 Honda HR-V registration 1EY3DI, is urged to contact 000 immediately.
